JARL BENGTSSON

Dr. Jarl Bengtsson, is Counsellor and Head of Centre for Educational Research and Innovation, OECD. He has been with the CERI/OECD since 1972, where he has been involved in most of CERI/OECD educational initiatives, notably: Recurrent Education; Lifelong Learning; Schooling for Tomorrow; Early Childhood Care and Education; Education and Regional Development; Human Resources Development; School-to-Work Transitions; Educational Research and Development in the Knowledge-Based Economies and Societies; Education and Sustainable Development; and Education Statistics and Indicators -- particularly work on human and social capital formation.

Since 1991, he is the Head of CERI and responsible for the planning, co-ordination and overall implementation of the CERI Programme of Work in close co-operation with the rest of OECD’s work.

Prior to joining OECD, Dr. Bengtsson was a Professor of Education at the University of Gothenburg, Sweden, and advisor to the Swedish Minister of Education. He is also a Board Member on several international bodies in the area of education and the economy. Dr. Bengtsson has written many articles and books on education per se and its links to the economy and society at large.
